Ok so we're ending Nurses Week today. The official date for nurses was May 6 but some places devote an entire week to the profession of nursing. Case in point the facility where I work. The past week was to be an honor of us nurses who work there....wrong. The first thing that they thought was cute was to ask for our graduation picture and a paragraph of when we graduated and where from. The majority of us had our badge pictures up on the wall we had no choice or chance of bringing in an appropriate picture. Then it was a week of dress up days (we figured this was the cheap way of getting around things). Last year they had a massage therapist come in and do neck and shoulder mass sages ( I did not get to enjoy this benefit because this time last year I was still working 5 days and could not give up sleep time for this). Let me give you a run down of what they did do for us this year.
Monday: Hawaiian day (like we could really wear grass skirts and coconut bras)
Tuesday: Comfort foods (night shift got a few cookies; a few brownies; a small can of Doritos's; a small can of Folgers coffee and a small box of hot chocolate mix (and like we drink hot chocolate when it's 80 outside) day shift got Starbucks coffee (made); another kind of coffee (made); candy, cookies, donuts; hot chocolate mix (see above statement) and evening shift got big time shafted they had to have day shift leftovers.
Wednesday: Western Day (I like I am going to wear my cowboy boots for a 12 hour shift)
Thursday: Presents from the DON (director of nursing) (I will tell you about this a little later
Friday: Carry in presented by the CNA's (again I will tell you in a short bit)
So Friday night I get to work about 6:45pm and walk into the break room. I see the food left over from the carry in and by now who knows how long it has been sitting out, but if I were to guess I would say just about 7 hours.
I wait to clock in pondering what the present was the day before and if there is one waiting for me. I walk to the nurses station only find a sickly looking plant. By golly it has my name on it. I pick the ugly thing up and set it back down and watch leaves and petals fall off (like the Christmas Tree in Charlie Brown's Christmas). I am utterly insulted that they don't think of not only me but my coworkers when they bought that. I kept saying to myself that I was highly insulted. I finally said that the plant was going into the trash. Why should I have to carry that thing home with me to put into my trash? I put it into the trash and my CNA did not believe that I was actually going to do it until she opened up the trash and found the plant on top. I could tell that she could not believe that I did it.
Wouldn't you be insulted?
