God vs. Science
I received the following as an e-mail...I thought it was interesting and true and decided to share it through the world of blogging.
God vs. Science...very good, your going to love this!!
A science professor begins his school year with a lecture to the
students, 'Let me explain the problem science has with religion.' The
atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks
one of his new students to stand.
'You're a Christian, aren't you, son?'
'Yes sir,' the student says.
'So you believe in God?'
'Absolutely.'
'Is God good?'
'Sure! God's good.'
'Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?'
'Yes.'
'Are you good or evil?'
'The Bible says I'm evil.'
The professor grins knowingly. 'Aha! The Bible!' He considers for a
moment. 'Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here
and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you
try?'
'Yes sir, I would.'
'So you're good..!'
'I wouldn't say that.'
'But w hy not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could.
Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't.'
The student does not answer, so the professor continues. 'He doesn't,
does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though heprayed to Jesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?'
The student remains silent.
'No, you can't, can you?' the professor says. He takes a sip of water
from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.
'Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?'
'Er...yes,' the student says.
'Is Satan good?'
The student doesn't hesitate on this one. 'No.'
'Then where does Satan come from?'
The student falters. 'From God'
'That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil
in this world?'
'Yes, sir.'
'Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything, correct?'
'Yes.'
'So who created evil?' The professor continued, 'If God created
everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to
the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil. 'Again, the student has no answer. 'Is there sickness? Immorality?
Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?'
The student squirms on his feet 'Yes.'
'So who created them?'
The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his
question. 'Who created them?' There is still no answer. Suddenly the
lecturer breaks away to face in front of the classroom. The class is
mesmerized. 'Tell me,' he continues onto another student. 'Do you
believe in Jesus Christ, son?'
The student's voice betrays him and cracks. 'Yes, professor, I do.'
The old man stops pacing. 'Science says you have five senses you use
to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?'
'No sir. I've never seen Him.'
'Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?'
'No, sir, I have not.'
'Have you ever felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelled your Jesus?
Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for
that matter?'
'No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't.'
'Yet you still believe in him?'
'Yes.'
'According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol,
science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?'
'Nothing,' the student replies. 'I only have my faith.'
'Yes, faith,' the professor repeats. 'And that is the problem science
has with God. There is no evidence, only faith.'
The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of
his own. 'Professor, is there such a thing as heat?'
'Yes,' the professor replies. 'There' s heat.''And is there such a thing as cold?'
'Yes, son, there's cold too.'
'No sir, there isn't.'
The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested The
room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain. 'You can
have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited
heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything
called 'cold'. We can hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no
heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing
as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458
degrees'
'Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits
energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy.
Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir,
cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot
measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy.
Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.'
Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom,
sounding like a hammer.
'What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?'
'Yes,' the professor replies without hesitation. 'What is night if it
isn't darkness?'
'You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence
of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light,
flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing
and it's called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define
the word.''In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make
darkness darker, wouldn't you?'
The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This
will be a good semester. 'So what point are you making, young man?'
'Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to
start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed.'
The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time. 'Flawed? Can
you explain how?'
'You are working on the premise of duality,' the student explains.
'You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and a bad
God You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something
we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought'
'It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less
fully understood either one. To view deat h as the opposite of life is to
be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.
Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it.''Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved
from a monkey?'
'If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man,
yes, of course I do.'
'Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?'
The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes
where the argument is going. A very good semester, indeed.'Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and
cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you
not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a
preacher?'
The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion
has subsided.
'To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student,
let me give you an example of what I mean.'
The student looks around the room. 'Is there anyone in the class who
has ever seen the professor's brain?' The class breaks out into laughter.
'Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt
the professor's brain, touched or smelled the professor's brain? No one
appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of
empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you hav e
no brain - with all due respect, sir.'
'So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures,
sir?'
Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his
face unreadable.
Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. 'I guess
you'll have to take them on faith.'
'Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with
life,' the student continues. 'Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?'
Now uncertain, the professor responds, 'Of course, there is. We see it
everyday. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is
in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These
manifestations are nothing else but evil.'
To this the student replied, 'Evil does not exist sir, or at least it
does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is
just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe
the a bsence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what
happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's
like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes
when there is no light.'
The professor sat down.

The Countdown is On
July 25 I will be done with my classes for this semester. My plan is to take the fall semester off. My brain so needs the vacation. Classes have been especially stressful this summer....fit 16 weeks into 8 weeks ugh.
I'm in the middle of writing one of my final papers for English....actually I guess it is my final paper....the rough draft but still the final paper.
I am also in the middle of writing a speech. I have to persuade people this time and it has to be 7-10 minutes in length. What fun! Then 1 more speech and that class is done (July 18...woot).
I am so tired. I have not slept much this go around just because of time constraints and now with working 5 days a week again it put a hamper on me staying up late working on my projects. I so miss my 12 hour shifts and I want them back. I am a bit concerned with when I start up my nursing program of how I am to work at night 5 days a week and then try to do clinicals...I should not worry yet things will work out for me because God has it planned already.
Ok so I gave a quick update.

Summer Classes Have Started
Summer classes have now officially started for me. I am already ready to pull out my hair. I have a speech due already this weekend and still have to figure out my new camcorder and how to post and send to the instructor. I think the fam will get bored listening to speeches luckily I only have 5 to do. One assignment I am to critique a public speaker....I think Pastor Viars will be my subject.
My next class starts next week and hopefully it will not be this involved.
I will let you know if I suddenly turn gray or no longer have hair.

Have you read...
23 Minutes in Hell.?
I did earlier this week. I did not buy this book it was free.
I was intrigued that the Lord would purposely send someone to the firey depths to help spread His message or draw attention to His word. I don't doubt this could've happened but it is also unbelievable. I only say that it is unbelievable because it is not heard of as much as going to heaven only to be told that it is not your time. I guess it is more believable I should say of hearing about time spent in heaven than in hell.
When I first saw this book months ago I thought someone just wanted to write a book and claim that they had went to hell because of the book 90 minutes in Heaven.
The accounts that the auther of 23 minutes seemed very realistic and gave several Scripture verses to reference hell (and what he experienced)....like there are 150 verses that talk about hell in some aspect (did you know that because I didn't) and the author lists several verses in the appendix.
I have so much running through my mind now and it is hard to sort it out and to even explain more of this book. One question you may be asking is "was the author a believer" yes since 1970. The author stated that while in hell he did not know the Lord and that was because it was hidden from him so that he could experience the hopelessness of the lost souls.
Do I believe? Yes and no....yes because God can do anything he wants and no only because like I stated earlier it is more believeable to hear of accounts of going to heaven. Do I want God to prove it to me? No, not really because as I was reading this book I could visualize and almost feel the agony of what was happeing. I wanted to cry. I felt compelled to read this book...don't know why. Now that I have read it I hold no regrets. Whether the story is real or not does not matter what does matter is the Scripture references to the description of sheol..am I right?

New Blog Name
Well, after some reading yesterday I felt it was time to change the name of the blog and give a new description.
I find myself dwelling on things of my past and as Scripture and my description states we are not to dwell on past acheivements, virtuous deeds, sins and failures.
Am I sinner?
Yes, I often will dwell on the sins of my past.
Am I forgiven?
Yes, through my confession to Jesus that I am a sinner, that Jesus is Lord of Lords, and by His death, burial and resurrection.
I know that I am not perfect but I continue to run that race that leads me to be more like Christ.

The Earth Moved
Ok, so by now everyone who is everyone knows about the earthquake this morning. So I question this...what were you doing when the earth moved?
I happened to be up catching up on some TV viewing from this week when I felt the vibration through my couch. I thought at first "Boy the ceiling fan downstairs sure is powerful" but then my cat sat up (she was stretched out so nice on the floor)and then I saw my lamps shaking and about could swear (that's probably not the right term) I saw my walls shake as well. I thought "tornado, but where's the sound" then of course like a light bulb that turned on I realized that I had just gone through an earthquake. I have to admit during what seemed like an eternity of this occurring I was a bit scared because I did not know what was happening. I turned on our local station, but they were not mentioning anything...um..so then I flipped to the Indianapolis stations and had it confirmed that it was indeed and earthquake. No big deal...I guess. The second quake or I should say aftershock later on at 11am or so woke me up (I was taking a siesta) and heard the lamps shaking again. I was much calmer that time and told myself that it was just an aftershock and finished my nap.
So I survived a 5.4 and a 4.? aftershock....just don't ask me to live in California.

So It Didn't Work
Ok here it goes.....
My first night at the new job was my last night at the new job. I literally left in tears this morning (something that I have never done). I went into this new experience/challenge with an open mind; however, that was to change throughout the course of the night. I went into the facility explained who I was it started and just snowballed. "Oh are you the one from Delphi?" "Well, we've been anticipating your arrival the girl that is orientating you said that you should be orientating her" at that time I did not know exactly what that meant but I soon found out. I go to the unit that I am to work on and that's when my first clue of the upcoming nightmare started. I was 30 min late on my first day of work (I was not told that my shift actually started at 10:30)..ugh! I figured since I work 11-7 that I was to report to work at 11p. I am just going to jump ahead now some. I think I did feel a bit overwhelmed to be honest and I made a comment just don't ask me what it was (no it was not bad...I just cannot remember, but the nurse training me suddenly started making references that I was there saving them and making references again to my much anticipated arrival. I was lifted so high up on this pedestal like I was set up to fail. I finally said "You're making me out to be the Messiah" which depends on how you look at it was a an appropriate response or a nonappropriate response. The nurse said that she wouldn't take it that far; however, with the comments made.... Anyway, I am not a prideful or boastful person I actually question my abilities as a nurse and I really do not like being lifted up in such high regards when I really don't deserve it or know what I am doing. Fast forward... I had to show this nurse how to send someone to the ER and how to chart it. Why am I showing them how to do things when I am the one who is orientating?
So let's fast forward again. I quit the new job and have back my old job; however, it has now caused strife with a friend/co-worker because she had signed up for extra shifts and now because I am back full time they called and canceled her shifts. I apologized profusely and even told her that I told the scheduler not to take any shifts away from anybody....so I guess I might be in some hot water. I don't know if she truly accepted my apology.

My Last Night of Work
My night started off like any other ordinary night....come in put stuff into my locker clock in and get report on my residents. I told a few of my residents that I would not be returning and some had already heard it going through the facility. One residents' husband always rides his power chair/scooter into the facility and it has been a running joke that he is going to run me over, well point is last night I purposely stepped in front of him and said "Last Chance". He stopped and gave me a hug and said that if I ever saw him out on the street that he would buy my dinner "And I mean it". Not much more was said until later.
Well, come later I get more hugs and goodbyes from my coworkers. Poor Teresa though....though I did not get to work with her much, she said she was heartbroken when I told her a few days ago that I was leaving. One time that I got to work with her it was at night and I had a resident that was failing. Teresa had not "worked" with a dead body before nor a person that was in the process....and she was nervous. I could tell that her heart was aching for the resident, but we came to the conclusion that it is best for him and that family would be in to see him. She got relief and so it was every time that she saw me she would ask if someone was trying to die. It became a joke for us.
The others in the pictures...there is just so much to say about them that my blog would go on for a long time.
I was told that members of the front office were hoping that my new job does not work out so that I will return. So I started in on the fun last night; however, I am trying to keep an open and positive mind about my new job. I received so many hugs this morning before I left. I have had some strange talks with some, but behind each talk we find out that we share the same philosophies on so many different ideas. I wish that I could have taken pictures of everybody but when the days start things get rolling. I do wish however that I had gotten more pictures of my night crew because without them my nights could have dragged by. We laughed, told good stories and even ate....we were a close "family" and were happy to celebrate birthdays because that meant a ice cream cake from DQ.
Hope you enjoy my pictures. The captions may not be the best, but that was not what I really wanted to share anyway.

A Fresh New Start
Well, the anticipated day is next week. I have 4 working days left at the nursing home in Delphi and then on April 16 I start at the new facility. I am both nervous and excited and glad. My ending thus far at Delphi is going how it started when I first got there nearly 3 years ago to which that is all I am going to say. I will miss some of my coworkers namely my night CNAs and I will miss my residents that I have come to know all too well. I will begin this new chapter of my life with a fresh perspective and knowing that I have a loving God guiding me through. As it has been said that God does not give us more than we can handle and with that I look forward to my new challenges.

My New Home "Job"
I have accepted the position at a sister facility in West Lafayette. I will be working nights 11p-7a and will be starting some time after April 13.
I have been agonizing over this decision for almost a week now and in fact lost sleep on several nights. I look forward to the new experience in my career and hope that it was in fact the best decision (it is scary to start something new). I have the faith and trust in The Lord to have helped me make such a decision and it may be a trial in my life that I need since I was getting so comfortable at the last place.
As I truly find out more information pertaining to my new job I will be happy to share for now I am just happy that I do not lose my PTO or my insurance and have a job.
I should also edit my initial post about my decisions for a job. I should not have said that the facility in West Lafayette will be easy. I should have said that it will have its challenges but different than what I face now and different from the facility just down the road.....easy was the wrong word choice.

Decisions, Decisions,Decisions
Some know about the situation at work.
About two weeks ago, if I remember correctly, a note was posted at work about the loss of 10 and 12 hour shifts. That affects me because I work 12 hour shifts and the benefit of this is less days working and savings of gas. I had known that there were going to be changes at work because of an initial posting stating some room changes. I really had not put much thought into the possibility of losing my job, but there was an inkling because with these room changes we were losing a hall. Well, I received a call from a coworker about the hour changes and I had already requested a meeting with my supervisor to question if my job was in jeopardy among some other things. My question was answered before the meeting. Initially, it was to be that the changes were to take place April 1, but have since been pushed back to April 15. There are limited jobs now available and so many nurses in the facility. I figured 1) instead of chancing the possibility of being let go and 2) the rise of gas prices that I should look elsewhere for a job and preferably within the same company so that I do not lose my insurance.
Now with the clock ticking my last day is April 13 ( I decided to fulfull my weekend duty) I have to make a tough decision. I have been offered two jobs 1) with a facility 5-10 min away from the apartment ( I will be a night shift supervisor, make just a few pennies more, but it will look great on my resume) 2) a facility on the west side (they actually wanted me to start tonight (whoa) but it will be extremely easy work (far easier than what I do now). I also received a phone call from a place that I had interviewed before but I am just not sure if I want to be on the phone all the time. Facility #1 will be every other weekend for awhile then can be a Sun-Thurs or a M-F #2 is a M-F unless the weekend option nurse does not pan out then I will be back to every other weekend and option #3 is definitely a M-F no weekend and no holidays.
Ugh!

Feel Like You're Watched?
This morning as I was going back inside of work after starting my car I felt as though I had someone watching me. I could of course had been imaging it due to the circumstances of the night.
Let me rewind and tell you what unfolded to make me feel the way I felt.
With it being like subzero a coworker went out to start her car...no big deal. The turn of events occurred later when she went to leave. As she went back out to her car to leave for the night a man appeared from near the kitchen outside. He approached her and asked if she had seen any kids. She promptly got into her car. She sent another coworker back into the building to report the incident. It is unclear if this coworker saw what had happened. I made the decision to call the police. I wanted a search of the parameter to ensure safety of my workers, residents and myself. Well, needless to say the police did not find anyone on the premises but did advise us to call if we see anyone anytime that did not belong there.
I felt a little better, but I made sure that blinds were closed in the rooms...and this morning came. I too went out to start my car early and on the way back in I could almost swear I saw someone among the cars. I felt freaked and convinced myself that my mind played a trick on me.
But I am glad the night is over.

Just Wanted to Share
This past Christmas my place of employment handed out the following at our Christmas breakfast.
I was struck and I just wanted to share it with you. I have it hanging on my refrigerator as encouragement.
Imagine you and the Lord Jesus are walking down the road together. For much of the way, the Lord's footprints go along steadily, consistently, rarely varing in the pace.
But your footprints are a disorganized stream of zigzags, starts, stops, turnarounds, circles, departures and returns. For much of the way it seems to go like this, but gradually your footprints come more in line with the Lord's, soon paralleling his consistently. You and Jesus are walking as true friend's.
This seems perfect, but then, an interesting thing happens: your footprints that once etched the sand next to Jesus are now walking precisely in his steps.
Inside his larger footprints are your smaller ones, you and Jesus are becoming one. This goes on for many miles, but gradually you notice another change. The footprints inside the large footprints seem to grow larger.
Eventually they disapppear altogether. There is only one set of footprints. They have become one.
This goes on for awhile and suddenly the second set of footprints is back. This time it seems even worse than before. Zigzags all over the place. Stops, starts. Gashes in the sand. A variable mess of prints. You are amazed and shocked. Your dream ends and now you pray: Lord, I understand the first scene, with zigzags and fits. I was a new Christian; I was learning, but you walked through the storm and helped me learn to walk with you.
And the Lord responds: "That is correct."
And while the smaller footprints were inside of yours I was actually learning to walk in your footsteps, following you very closely.
"Very good' the Lord replies, "you have understood everything so far."
When the smaller footprints grew and filled yours. I suppose that I was becoming like you in every way.
"Precisely", says the Lord.
So, Lord was there a regression or something? The footprints separated and this time it was worse than the first.
There was a pause as the Lord answers with a smile in his voice.
"You didn't know?" "It was then that we danced!!!!!!!"
I hope you all dance in the joy of the Lord, always!

Start of a New Semester
Tomorrow earmarks the beginning of a new semester for me. I will be continuing with my studies on line. I am taking Spanish 2 and Chemistry. I have to admit that I am a bit worried about how this semester will go. Spanish seems like it will be more in depth which it should be and Chemistry I have no clue. I am curious about how the on line Chemistry lab will be...will I blow up my computer?...will I have to visit a cyber hospital? Ah the questions. I cannot wait to find out.
Tune in next time to read about my many fumbles with Chemistry.
Just joking. I just had to have some sort of fun with that.

Here I Am
So I'm finally getting things settled into the new digs. Things are pretty basic right now, but eventually the place will look more like home. I have another end table ordered and thinking about getting the loveseat that matches my couch.
I will not be picking up extra shifts this month at work. Work has already messed up the schedule so bad for everyone. A nurse on my shift got like no hours at the end of the month and I got scheduled for extra early in the month.
School will start again on the 14th and I will be taking Spanish 102 and Chemistry. Yes both will be on line again. I am curious about how the Chemistry on line is going to work. I should not boast but I am proud of myself for getting A's last semester considering the problem that I had with the Sociology instructor. I do not know how I pulled that one out of the hat.
That is my life for now.
